Treating Ingrown Hairs
Ingrown Hairs:
Are you prone to ingrown hairs? It doesn’t matter whether you shave or wax, some people are just unlucky enough. Ingrown hair is basically a body hair that begins to curl under the skin and eventually grows back into the skin pushing it’s way through the skin and growing upwards. Unfortunately, some people are more prone to ingrown hairs than others. People who have thick skin, coarse hair, or individuals who shave too closely to their body are all more likely to have ingrown hairs than individuals with thin, skin and hair.
Dealing with ingrown hair:
Many people find ingrown hairs can be painful, while for others it is just an unsightly mess. Here at Excellent Esthetics, we recommend that if the ingrown hair is bothering you, use a sterile needle to pierce the skin and remove the hair. The earlier this is done, the less likely it is to be deeper under the skin. People must be willing to put some more effort into their daily routines, such as remembering to exfoliate. This helps reduce the amount of ingrown hairs that appear. We personally recommend exfoliating problem areas at least three to four times a week. This will help keep the pores open and in turn does not create a barrier for the hair to grow up and out. If removing the ingrown hair and exfoliating does not help, it might be possible that the area may become infected. If this is the case, it is recommended that you see a physician about possibly taking antibiotics.
Ingrown Hairs & Shaving:
If an individual is coming for a wax for the first time and shave fairly often, they may be more likely to have ingrown hairs. This is a result of not exfoliating, and also having thick, coarse hair. One service may not be enough to tell if waxing is for you or not. The more often an individual gets waxed, the thinner their hair is, and ingrown hairs are less and less likely. We recommend coming for a wax at least two to three times before ruling out waxing completely. You have to understand that you need to take matters into your own hands and exfoliate. If you take anything away from the article, it should be exfoliate, exfoliate, and exfoliate.
